Hydraulic Wedge Mandrels (HWM) are developed specifically to meet the bending requirements of X65 and higher steel grade pipe. It is particularly successful in providing a smooth bend with “out-of-round”.
HWM's do use the hydraulic system of the Pipe Bending Machine for power. Simple design and few parts result in low maintenance cost.
The Bending Machine operator controls the Mandrel. Travel wheels raise from the pipe wall when the Mandrel is expanded. On 20” pipe and above, the travel wheels are pivotally mounted to provide self-leveling of Mandrel in the pipe. Double angle hardened steel wedged provide fast approach and powerful locking action.
Wedges will accommodate several wall thicknesses without changing shims. Normal operation does not require an auxiliary hydraulic power unit. However, these can be supplied at extra cost if required by the customer.
A Hydraulic Power Take-Off is required on Pipe Bending Machines to provide power for the Hydraulic Wedge Mandrel. This may be installed at the time of manufacture of the Bending Machine or supplied as a field installation kit at extra cost.
Independent hydraulic power may also be used and is available at extra cost. Hydraulic Power Take-Off (4-line) is standard on sevaral Bending Machines. A simple conversion kit is available at extra cost to convert from the smaller to the larger pipe within the model range.
